Foot wounds
Foot health is a priority for people with diabetes. Type 1 diabetics are often diagnosed with the chronic condition during adolescence, and therefore likely enter adulthood with a dedicated foot health and wound care routine. But people with type 2 diabetes, who may be newer to the condition since it’s often diagnosed later in life, need to learn about their risks and develop these healthy foot and wound care habits.
Diabetes can cause poor blood circulation, chronic inflammation, and nerve damage to the foot. Dry skin, cracks, or cuts to the legs and feet can be dangerous. Those foot injuries, known as diabetic foot ulcers (DFU), can be slow to heal and are prone to bacterial and fungal infections.
An untreated DFU could be challenging to heal, and if not treated effectively or in time, could lead to amputation. According to the American Diabetes Association, 160,000 Americans undergo a limb amputation each year.

A prospective, double-blinded, randomized controlled study of 65 patients compared the healing outcomes of diabetic foot wounds over six weeks. Thirty-four patients were treated with Lavior’s gel, and 31 were treated with another gel. While healing progress and wound closure times were similar, patients treated with Lavior’s product had a greater reduction in wound surface area, and their pain was significantly reduced compared to patients receiving the other treatment.
