The Latest in Lasers: How LaseMD is Revitalizing Skincare

Dubbed a “lunchtime laser,” LaseMD by Lutronic Aesthetics, Inc. can be done in the time it would take to eat lunch. The under-30-minute procedure doesn’t have much downtime either, meaning patients can quickly go back to their regular activities.

Game Changer

The FDA-approved therapy uses heat, not needles, to treat skin concerns including age spots,
freckles, mild to moderate sun damage and scaly patches known as Actinic Keratosis.

“I definitely think it’s a game changer,” says board certified dermatologist and MOHS surgeon, Zena H. Gabriel, M.D., founder of ZENA Medical in Newport Beach. “Nobody can afford downtime anymore; we are all so busy.”

Here’s how it works: the 1927nm Thulium laser is delivered in tiny micro beams which delivers heat below the skin just enough, without cutting it or causing it to bleed or blister. Then as the body heals, the micro-damaged skin sloughs off, revealing fresh skin.

“It heats up tissue in a very controlled fashion so the tissue can rejuvenate,” says Dr. Gabriel, who is neutral and not paid by Lutronic.

The laser opens up the skin to receive nutrients topically. Special serums with Vitamin A, Vitamin C, resveratrol and tranexamic acid are applied to the area treated with the laser, right after the procedure.  A post-procedure biocellulose cooling mask is applied to calm and deeply hydrate the skin.

Lastly, patients can take home and apply those same serums twice a day to complement the in-office treatment.

Uses

More than a spot treatment, LaseMD is used on the whole face, neck or chest as part of a long-term skin care regimen.

It’s also a beauty boost before a big event. Many of Dr. Gabriel’s patients get it two weeks before a wedding, for example.

“You’ll look dewy and fresh,” she’s says. “You’ll have one to two days of pink skin. You don’t have any flaking, scabbing, redness or bleeding.”

LaseMD works on all skin types and is popular with women and men. Patients love the quick results.

Typically, patients only need two to three sessions to get the desired results, but many will have “tune-up” sessions because they love the results.

Dr. Gabriel says results can last from four to six months, or in some cases, up to a year. Patients are encouraged to minimize sun exposure, wear sunscreen daily and use effective products to help get lasting results.

It costs between $500 to $1250 a session, compared to other treatments which run from $1000 to $3500 or more.

Dr. Gabriel is impressed: “Real results with limited downtime. No hype,” she says. “It’s an effective laser with tissue infusion.”
